As summer approaches and the distraction of the sun and vacation plans near, I wanted to take a moment to remind you about the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) fee filing. This fee is due July 31st of the calendar year following the end of the plan year being reported. You may have seen some carriers or TPAs already send out e-mail notices about the PCORI reminders that are being sent to your employers. Generally, those who are responsible to file PCORI fees are employers who have a self-insured health plan which may also include HRA plans. It’s important for your client to consult with their carrier or TPA as reporting calculation assistance may be offered. The applicable rate for 2022 filing will range from $2.66 to $2.79 depending on when the policy/plan year ended. Ultimately, it is up the employer to file and pay any associated fees. As with any required employer filing, we suggest reaching out now ahead of the deadline.
