Once you get a handle on the new rules, the next step is figuring out how all of the different carriers interpret and administer these rules. Sometimes it is not as intuitive as you would think!

Employers will be limited to a waiting period of not more than 90 days effective 1/1/2004.

- Horizon automatically reduced all waiting period in excess of 90 days to 90 days effective 1/1/2014, regardless of renewal date. A copy of the letter sent out to affect groups is below.

- Oxford groups will automatically be reduced to a 90 day wait upon renewal. If the group would like a waiting period of less than 90 days, they will need to submit a written request.

- AmeriHealth groups need to be aware of the new limitation on waiting periods and ensure their compliance. AmeriHealth does not actively monitor waiting periods for their employer groups.

- Aetna groups will automatically be reduced to a 90 day wait upon renewal. If the group would like a waiting period of less than 90 days, they will need to submit a written request.
