NJ DOBI releases updated 2014 Individual Buyers Guide - Some Big Changes to the IHC Market to Align with the Federal Law
(Posted on 12/31/13)
- No Continuous Enrollment. An individual must enroll during an open enrollment period or a special enrollment period.

- No Pre-Existing Condition Exclusions. A carrier cannot deny coverage due to a pre-existing condition for policies issued on or after 1/1/2014.

- No Grandfathering. All individual consumers must select an ACA compliant plan upon renewal. If an individual has a current plan, they can choose to move to a new plan during open enrollment or upon the renewal of their 2013 policy.

- Enhanced Coverage. Coverage must include all essential health benefits and standard plans comply with the metallic tiers.

- Modified Community Rating. Each covered person under a plan is rated individually based on their age. Family rates will be built by totaling the rates for all of the enrolled members. There will be a cap of 3 children under the age of 21.
